Murder in Southall

A channel 4 documentary that examines the racist murder of an 18 year old Indian boy who had immigrated to England with his parents. The murder occurred in 1976. During this very different time in England’s history the boys murder was deemed not to be a racist murder and his murderers were not convicted of race related offences concerning his killing. Shockingly the judge who presided over the court case said it wasn’t a racist murder which it certainly was because the teenager was murdered because of his skin colour and race.

Some years later there was another racist murder of another Indian man. This eventually led to an Indian uprising in Southall to get the authorities to acknowledge that the murders were racist. The BNP were active at the time and the media seems to have tried to stir up anti Indian sentiment. My deceased parents would have lived through this time although we are northern and Southall is in London in the South. It is shocking to me to witness the racism and intolerance of those times. It is rightly considered to be unacceptable now and I certainly consider such things to be unacceptable.
